Here’s a link so that you could Ask me anything http://formspring.me/anahierika
Anahi & I are on here so you could ask us whatever you want and we will get back to you as soon as possible. (:
1. Introduce yourself and tell us why you are running for office. What are your motivations?
What’s up, class of 2012! My name is Erika Cortez and I am running for Class Vice-President. I am running for Vice because I feel that someone should step up and become the listener of the class of 2012. I also think that this is a serious position because I really want OUR senior year to be the most memorable year that anyone has ever had at iPoly. Since we’re always going through stress, long nights doing projects, etc. at iPoly; I want our senior year to make up for all the stress and problems it has put us through. And what’s a better way to make it good then to ask the class of 2012, what we want. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO HAPPEN YOUR SENIOR YEAR? Anahi and I will make it happen! (:
2. What do you bring to the table (skills/qualifications)? What differentiates you from the other candidates?
I believe that I bring joy, bright ideas, organization, communication, and of course listening. I am happy all the time, I do shout out random ideas here and there, I am organized (almost OCD), I communicate well with other, and I am the perfect listener. The difference between the other candidates and me are: I really want to listen to what you want. Yes, I am planning to keep the original iPoly traditions but I want to throw out new ones! I want to make class of 2012 to make a trend so that the other classes below us could continue following.
3. What are your goals for next year’s class? What specific ideas do you have for:
Class activities
Fundraisers
Dance themes (Welcome Back and Prom)
Where to begin?
For class activities: I know a lot of people in our class are athletes and they suffer because they go to iPoly. So why not make sports competitions? We could vote on what sports, make our teams, and maybe every Friday compete against teams. Another idea could be magic or yo-gi-ho competitions. I know a lot of people love to play with cards but some don’t really get to play because the teachers always tell them to put it away. So why not see who’s pro at it? We could also do that for class activities. And maybe we could work things out to go to a FIELD TRIP! Everyone loves field trips especially to six flags! (:
Fundraisers: I do want to continue the pizza and muffins for next year. I feel that those are the main things that sold out quickly this year and the past years. We could also sell cinnamon rolls, donuts, candy, etc. But I want to raise as much money as possible to be able to go to trips for free. I don’t want anyone not to go to gradnight or to prom because of their budget.
Dance Themes: This is where I thought BIG! The welcome back dance is always full. Everyone goes to that one and it needs be good all the time! The most important, the DJ but the second is the dance theme. One that I really would enjoy and hope that you would enjoy is “Under the Sea”. Now prom is a different story. See, I want our senior prom to be outrageous! I want it to be a prom that a rich school could have. I was seriously thinking of raising enough money so that we could have our prom on a yacht. The theme would be Elegant like “Starry Nights” or “A Night in Paris” or maybe even “Las Vegas”. We would make it all fancy and make it so everyone would remember that night. If we don’t get the yacht I would like to get an artist to perform at our prom. I want it to be a special night for all of us to remember and for all of us to enjoy.
4. What have you learned/consider most significant from watching current class officers and/or other people in leadership roles (not necessarily ASB)?
The things I’ve learned about leadership roles are that first of all: you have to keep the students updated. Everybody hates when someone forgets to say the spirit week or forgets to tell him or her that they are starting to sell tickets for the dance. I have also learned to be in contact with the students. You want to always make sure to let them know what’s going on and ask them for help. Asking them for ideas is brilliant because usually at least one person has the perfect idea. I’ve also learned to be organized and to give what you have promised or at least have a plan B just in case it doesn’t happen. I’ve had a lot of experience with yearbook and I’m glad I’ve learned how to work things out.
5. What are your plans for the class this summer?
Wow. I WANT THIS SUMMER TO BE THE BEST! I would for sure love to have a class BBQ and a class trip to the beach. First of all a BBQ because that’s what we always do and also because we could all bond with other. I want the class beach trip because I saw how everyone reacted when our field trip got cancelled. This summer should be the best summer of your life! Well so far… and I want to be part of that making. (:
6. What personal challenges would you face and how do you intend to overcome them? (i.e. Young Scholars, senior project, college recruitment, time management, etc.)
I was already facing these challenges this year and I did overcome them. I tend to overcome them really calmly and not go insane on everybody. My partner and I will work it out as hard as we can to give you what we promised. I won’t let anything stop me from what I’m doing because nothing is strong enough to stop me. Honestly I know I will get stressed these things will come to me but I will want to do it! I see this as fun. I really want to be the one to listen and make the right decision.
7. All senior activities require total senior participation, what incentives would you offer the class of 2012 so that everyone participates?
I would try to get them to go but reminding them that’s it’s their senior year. I would just talk to them and tell them to go. And I could also make it better so that they would have the erg to go.
8. Being a senior ASB leader is similar to being a doctor on call 24/7 – there are a lot of responsibilities and duties required of you all the time, and your only option will be to delegate these tasks. Aside from your running mate and elected council members, who do you see yourself turning to for help and why?
The first person I would turn to for help is the teacher. They always know what to do at times like these. If they don’t help then I would ask my mom. Moms also always know what to do. My mom is always telling me things and giving ideas but they are good ones! They actually work and solve problems.

1. Introduce yourself and tell us why you are running for office. What are your motivations?
Hello, I am Anahi Gamboa(: The reason why I am running for office is because I want our senior year (fall 2011-summer 2012) to be enjoyable to all of us! I want the year to be fun and exciting and I would like to somehow help our class to come as a whole. by that I meant that I would like to do something to make us more united, like a class should be. My motivations are
2. What do you bring to the table (skills/qualifications)? What differentiates you from the other candidates?
I have organization skills, I have time management skills and I am very responsible! I will make sure that these qualities never disappear. Something that makes me different from the other candidates is that I have been class president before, it was in eighth grade. I know that you might thnk that high school and junior high are different, but I had a lot of responsibilities. I was in charge of helping organize our eighth grade dance and I also had a lot in organizing our promotion(graduation) ceremony.
3. What are your goals for next year’s class? What specific ideas do you have for:
* Class activities
* Fundraisers
* Dance themes (Welcome Back and Prom)
For class activities I would make sure that they are all different things. For example, we have sporty people in our class, we have the people that aren’t really into sports, we have the video gamers, and many other different types of people. I would make sure that there is diversity in the activities so that everyone does what they are good at, at least once. For fundraisers, I would make sure that we do something that everyone would do, I would also try to make fundraisers outside of school so we can have a lot of money, so at the end when we have all of our senior expenses(prom, Grad Night, etc.) they would all be cheaper and that is something good, especially with the economy. Dances, themes could be representative of our class as a whole. We could come up with a theme that all of us agree on, that way when it comes to going to the dances, everyone will be pumped up to go!
4. What have you learned/consider most significant from watching current class officers and/or other people in leadership roles (not necessarily ASB)?
I have seen people that ‘lag it’ and I have seen others that pick up the ball where the other people dropped it. I don’t want to be the one to drop the ball, and I won’t. I will also be there to help everyone else that may need help in any way!
5. What are your plans for the class this summer?
I would like to plan several bonfires at the beach where all of our class comes together. We would have a potluck kind of thing where everyone brings the food that they like and we just interact. This would happen more than once over the summer. We would also make sure that the bonfire/picnics aren’t always at the beach so that we won’t ‘get tired of the beach,’ we would also go to the park and have water balloon fights and fun stuff like that.
6. What personal challenges would you face and how do you intend to overcome them? (i.e. Young Scholars, senior project, college recruitment, time management, etc.)
I am a Young Scholar as of right now and I wish to continue being one so that is one obstacle that I would have to overcome. I would also have to balance working on my senior project, college applications and basic everyday homework from our core classes. I plan on working all of this out with exceptional time management skills, I would also make sure that no two things are ever on top of another and I will also try to make sure everything is done with quality.
7. All senior activities require total senior participation, what incentives would you offer the class of 2012 so that everyone participates?
I know that the seniors have an ongoing “House Competition,” I would offer the students a house point to whoever participated the most. The house with the most points at the end would have a prize. The prize could be chosen by the winning house, it could range from a party to like a raffle of certain items.
8. Being a senior ASB leader is similar to being a doctor on call 24/7 – there are a lot of responsibilities and duties required of you all the time, and your only option will be to delegate these tasks. Aside from your running mate and elected council members, who do you see yourself turning to for help and why?
Not only would I turn to teachers for help but I would also turn to our class, as in class of 2012 for help. We are all different in many ways and we all have different things to offer so I would take advantage of that and ask, whoever I needed to without being shy about it.

1. Introduce yourself and tell us why you are running for office. What are your motivations?
Hello, Class of 2012! My name is Karen Uribe and I am running for Senior Class President. My name is Madelene Santizo and I am running for Vice-President. We have worked together through various projects with positive outcomes; therefore, we believe we are great candidates! Our motivations are to satisfy the needs and wants of the Class of 2012! Making senior year, exciting, memorable, and fun is our main goal!
2. What do you bring to the table (skills/qualifications)? What differentiates you from the other candidates?
Responsibility, organization, and an effective communicator are the main qualities that we believe a great leader should have. We believe we have those traits and many more that will benefit our peers, parents, and the faculty. In order to be able to lead a group of people into the right direction you need to be responsible and organized. We have proven to have these qualities all throughout high school. We have also proven to be effective communicators through various group projects.
Not only is the main quailites that we have what differentiates us from the other great candidates but our past experiences as well. Madelene was in ASB for a semester and Karen has been in ASB for a year and a half. Outside of I-Poly we have also planned, organized, and hosted various community events varing from beach clean up to oak tree planting! We are in a program outside of I-Poly, Teen Green Internship, which is a group of eight young leaders that meet on a weekly basis to plan and organize various events. We are not only members of this leadership organization but we founded it freshmen year! Being part of a program throughout high school shows our dedication and consistency to get a job done! Of course we have ran into some problems but we were able to solve them and get assistance to have the best possible outcome.
Not only have we worked with parents, students, and parents of I-Poly but with people from our community as well.
3. What are your goals for next year’s class? What specific ideas do you have for:
• Class activities
• Fundraisers
• Dance themes (Welcome Back and Prom)
Our goals for next’s year’s class are to have a wonderful outcome of all of the events! We would be able to do this by first doing a survey to see what is it that our peers enjoy, like, hate, and/or dislike about the events and dances at I-Poly. Once we have this data we would be able to improve in the areas that are needed to progress. Our main focus is on making it memorable for all of us and having your input would be highly appreciated.
As of right now we have several ideas for class activities, fundraising, and dance themes. In order to unite each house and the class as a whole it would be beneficial to have class activities depending on everyone’s interest. We would also be able to have sport competitions since I-Poly does not have sports we believe many of you guys might like it!
Fundraising! Fundraising! And more fundraising! We are going to need to be fundraising non-stop in order to have an income to work with when it comes down to the many senior events. (That is assuming that we all want an amazing prom!) We would be selling the products that the seniors sold this year this being cinnamon rolls, pizza, candy, etc. This was very successful as long as we keep it consistent. We would also definitely be open to other opinions that any of you guys may have!
4. What have you learned/consider most significant from watching current class officers and/or other people in leadership roles (not necessarily ASB)?
We have learned many things from watching other leaders. The qualities that they have, what they did well, and areas in which they could improve are things we have looked at. First of all, we have learned that if a leader says they will do something its best to keep your word! We would not be saying stuff that we would not be able to accomplish! Second, in order to have everyone know what is going on you need to be an effective communicator. A voice needs to be able to represent the class of 2012’s Ideas, thoughts, opinions, and responses clearly and accurately and we believe we are fit for the job! Lastly, we have realized that fundraising is going to be a big part of senior year due to the many upcoming events! We would be able to plan, organize, and host many of the events with input from our peers.
5. What are your plans for the class this summer?
We both are aware that a lot of people are going to be busy vacationing and of course, getting ready for their senior project, but we would like to schedule in some time to come up with new ideas and get a head start to plan the 2012 school year’s activities. Communicating with our fellow peers and clearly understanding what their expectations are for the year would be greatly beneficial. We would also like to start fundraising as soon as we can, and so far many classmates have come up to us and contributed their brilliant ideas, but its just a matter of actually making these ideas turn into actions. Being realistic, not everyone will be around the same location during summer, so we would like to plan senior activities around the time that school will start again. Some of these activities may include but are not limited to: bowling, bbq, bonfires, etc. It would be amazing if everyone could participate in fundraising events, and the fun activities because your help will greatly help make it a more exciting year!
6. What personal challenges would you face and how do you intend to overcome them? (i.e. Young Scholars, senior project, college recruitment, time management, etc.)
Time management is a huge challenge for us, but we tend not to do so when other people are depending on us. We will not be able to let each other down, therefore we will not procrastinate. We are both in Young Scholars and planning on attending college, this does mean that senior year will be a busy time for us, but we have faced challenges such as this and we have overcame it. We have our own particular strengths and weaknesses, but for whatever skill one person may lack the other person obtains it, creating a balance. If we honestly had felt that we were not up to the challenge we would have never ran, but we passionately believe that we can lead our peers into the most unforgettable senior year.
7. All senior activities require total senior participation, what incentives would you offer the class of 2012 so that everyone participates?
This is the last year that I-Poly may ever be the same traditional I-Poly that we have all came to love and adore. This means that we all have to pitch in and pump up the I-Poly spirit. By having students participate and be enthusiastic about the events and dances that I-Poly had planned, the end result will be an unforgettable year. However, we have learned in the past that sometimes not even the general reward of an awesome year can be an incentive to some people, so we have to dig deeper. We plan on giving our fellow classmates what they want and so its all a matter of knowing what they truly want. So we ask of you, if there is anything in particular that you must see take place please allow your fellow senior president or vice president know so that they can work to make it happen. Our personal ideas are endless, but once again it is the people that make the difference!
8. Being a senior ASB leader is similar to being a doctor on call 24/7 – there are a lot of responsibilities and duties required of you all the time, and your only option will be to delegate these tasks. Aside from your running mate and elected council members, who do you see yourself turning to for help and why?
Being president and vice-president are going to require a lot of responsibility and hard work! We would not be able to do it on our own; therefore, any other students, parents, and even faculty that are willing to help would be highly appreciated. We would turn to people that want to also make next year an unforgettable year for assistance. We feel that if someone is passionate about doing something we will have a better outcome other than forcing someone that do something. Next year is going to be a lot of hard work for the president and vice-president but the class of 2012 has to come together and be able to help them out!
United, we are MADE to KARE!

1. Introduce yourself and tell us why you are running for office. What are your motivations?
Carissa Twardowski and I, Jacquelyn Huynh Vu, are running for class president and vice president of 2012. We are juniors who are motivated to take responsibilities of being class president. Our motivations would be that it’s our final year in high school, making it a tremendous importance to our life personally. Not only do we want a memorable year, but we want a year filled with expectations that are met due to great class presidents and their committee who follows right behind them. With utmost respect to other running candidates, Carissa and I do not feel comfortable leaving our final year in high school under any other’s control and management besides ourselves. We are incredibly confident of our capability to run a fun, exciting, consistent, memorable, grand, and special year filled with new ideas for senior events.
2. What do you bring to the table (skills/qualifications)? What differentiates you from the other candidates?
Many of the other candidates has one leader with some kind of previous leadership in a school function. As for Carissa and I, we both have been in ASB. Our experience in ASB has allowed us to proficiently and successfully manage and create school-wide events. Carissa is Production Manager for Drama Club under Mr. Hogan’s supervision. Her responsibilities are to promote up coming events such as Fullerton and manage sells during these events or at school’s fundraisers for Drama Club. We drive, so making to ASB events on time and getting supplies for fundraisers would be easy. Also, other candidates seem to lack an engaging approach when they try to communicate to the entire student body or the class itself during their announcements. As for Carissa and I, we get our points across successfully as shown throughout our campaign. We are very much social, so communicating to the class for inputs and ideas on up coming events is assured.
3. What are your goals for next year’s class? What specific ideas do you have for:
Well, some new ideas are: six flags, flag football against other high schools, local school gatherings/competitions such magic cards, monthly meetings with the counselor(s), roller skating nights, camping/cabins, photo booths at almost every event, beach bonfire, a class funded local carnival, and much more. Thus, fundraising would be our priority. Some of the fundraising ideas are the frequent usual food that we have been selling this year, such as the muffins, pizza, and random junk food. But, Carissa and I are truly pushing for getting trunks that are willing to drive onto our campus and sell, such as a taco truck and an ice cream truck.
4. What have you learned/consider most significant from watching current class officers and/or other people in leadership roles (not necessarily ASB)?
From watching and learning the process of managing and creating school-wide events from Emily (ASB president), Jeanette (current senior class president), Mr. Hogan (head of Drama Club), Mr. Navaroli (head of ASB), and Heather (ASB member/class committee member), consistency and dedication is most significant in leadership roles.
5. What are your plans for the class this summer?
This summer would be difficult with the utmost honesty to run any successful plans that includes the entire class. This summer for most students are: SAT, applications for colleges, personal statement, jobs, campus exploring, and more. Thus, Carissa and I would concentrate on fundraising more, rather than class bonding. To my knowledge, prom revenue deposit is right at the very beginning of senior year. Realistically, how much money we have at the fair beginning of the year determines what “level” of revenue/place our prom would be at. Thus, Carissa and I feel that we should do some kind of event that allows us to make some profit but still with our class interaction. Our idea so far is to throw a roller skating night for our school. As students come in and pay for their ticket, the money will partially pay for the skating rink, while the rest will be put away into our class bank. This allows us to use our money to make money but still giving us a class bonding.
6. What personal challenges would you face and how do you intend to overcome them? (i.e. Young Scholars, senior project, college recruitment, time management, etc.)
To be honest, the challenges of next year for Carissa and I both would be Young Scholars and our Publication Club (school newspaper) that we are expecting to put into practice as soon as senior year begins. Young Scholars was an issue to us this year due to the scheduling of the classes that we took. To solve this problem, we have discussed to each other and concluded that we will only take one class per quarter at Cal Poly and only classes during the weekend. Thus, the college classes we chose will not interfere with our high school work. As to the Publication Club, it would be a 24/7 responsibility. To avoid interference with our class presidency, we would get more students to join the club. This would make it easier on us leaders of the club, for we are not relied on as much with others’ help.
7. All senior activities require total senior participation, what incentives would you offer the class of 2012 so that everyone participates?
To get everyone’s participation, Carissa and I would make every event “pumped”. There will be frequent and constant announcement and reminders about the up coming events, so it wouldn’t be viewed as a small event with a low outcome. Our last resort would have to be participation points. From what I have heard, Mr. Purther gives house points to whomever that participates. I would like to keep academic points from senior events, but it would be our last resort.
8. Being a senior ASB leader is similar to being a doctor on call 24/7 – there are a lot of responsibilities and duties required of you all the time, and your only option will be to delegate these tasks. Aside from your running mate and elected council members, who do you see yourself turning to for help and why?
The obvious help we would turn to is Mr. Purther. He has been in charge of the class committee and such for years, giving us life-long advice to delegating the tasks of class presidency. Other helps would be Mr. Navaroli and Mr. Hogan, simply because they have been running their clubs successfully for many years as well. An outside help would be Carissa’s softball coach. He knows how to communicate and manage events relating to his softball team. They do frequent fundraisings and create team bonding events as well. He does what class presidents do but just with athletes, not Ipolyians which we think we might be able to handle x).

I have a question for Madelene and Karen.
Not that I’m picking on you two but i have worked with Madelene in the past and I am just curious about a few things. Some of my question will apply to the other candidates.
For those who have a significant other:
Are you good at keeping your personal life and school life separate and under control?
Can you keep them from interfering with each other and keep your priorities straight?
As pres and vice pres your priorities should be accomplishing the goals you have set for the class. Your personal lives should come second. (Obviously core class are more important than both but just put that aside for now.)
I don’t want a P and VP that won’t be able to get anything done because they’re “going to lunch with their boyfriend.” Thats a terrible excuse. Immediate Impeachment. XD
Now, you both say that you have responsibility and organization.
How do you prove your responsibility?
Anyone can say that they are responsible. You can say that you’ve done all this stuff but we don’t know what all you actually did or whether your heart was in it.
As for organization. Give examples of how you plan to organize stuff. Is it gonna be Nazi record status organized? Nav’s desk organized? or crazy anal chick organized?

Question for Carissa and Jackie. But mainly for Carissa…..
Okay so, I’m worried about the whole drama thing you have going on. I’m concerned that it may be too much for you with everything else going on. Doing both will take up a lot of your time. I like that doing the drama thing shows your responsibility and experience but can you really manage both?

Hey Alex I appreciate the question
…Being a part of drama and being vice president is a big responsibility that comes with a busy schedule. Balancing the two will be tough, but I wouldn’t put myself in this situation if I didn’t think I could handle it. I beleive that my hard work and effort will guide me through the year. It’s all about time management and I have no problem giving up lunches, weekends, or after school hours to get work done. I hope I answered your question, feel free to ask more.

Hey Alex! thank you for your question. Well first of all, I’d like to address your question about our personal life and school life, which will be an easy task. Both Karen and I will take the role of ASB representatives very seriously, and we are willing to sacrifice our time in order to better I-Poly. I can say, that both Karen and I have matured enough to be able to balance both lives, clearly our life is not going to revolve around ASB 24/7 but it will always be our main priority. I do understand that by just saying this, it may not be believable, but Karen and I have made a pact to always seek the best for our classmates, even if it means missing “a lunch with the boyfriend.” I’d also like to include that many of the people that we have relationships with, like our parents, siblings, significant others, etc. understand that if we are chosen we will be dedicated to it, and they are willing to support us.
Your second question refers to our responsibility, and honestly just as hard working students you can see we are responsible. Both Karen and I work hard to achieve the grades that we have. A responsible student would not have a high GPA and academically we are responsible students, whether its turning in our homework in time, studying before a test, etc. we are responsible enough to take our education into our own hands.
I have also added the website in which our program, Teen Green, is located. Feel free to look around and discover what Teen Green is all about, and the events which we have planned. I’d also like to inform you that our Teen Green meetings were from the start of this school year till June, and every Tuesday we would go to a meeting for 2 hours, if we were passionate about helping our community, we wouldn’ t have wasted our time.

And how we plan to organize is just a simple way of keeping everything on track to make sure that nothing gets lost, or forgotten. Its really hard to explain, but it wont be “extreme” organization, but just an efficient way to keep everything running smoothly. Once again thank you for your question! and sorry for the late reply!
