WELCOME, CLASS OF 2013!

Let us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherized upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats
Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
Streets that follow like a tedious argument
Of insidious intent
To lead you to an overwhelming question …

And so we begin the year with a poem, an invitation, and a challenge. Are you up for it? Only time will tell, but I’m sure the ride will be quite interesting. Go forth, and be brilliant, juniors!

CLASS OF 2012 ASB ELECTIONS

TO CANDIDATES:

Answer each question as succinctly and thoughtfully as possible. Remember, this is your only opportunity to give voice to your party platform. To give your voters time to evaluate the responses, try to post no later than Wednesday, June 8th, by 8pm.

TO CONSTITUENTS:

Please take the time to read each candidate’s response in order to make an informed decision regarding next year’s leadership. Voting will be held first block on Thursday, June 9th.

THE QUESTIONS:

1. Introduce yourself and tell us why you are running for office. What are your motivations?

2. What do you bring to the table (skills/qualifications)? What differentiates you from the other candidates?

3. What are your goals for next year’s class? What specific ideas do you have for:

Class activities
Fundraisers
Dance themes (Welcome Back and Prom)

4. What have you learned/consider most significant from watching current class officers and/or other people in leadership roles (not necessarily ASB)?

5. What are your plans for the class this summer?

6. What personal challenges would you face and how do you intend to overcome them? (i.e. Young Scholars, senior project, college recruitment, time management, etc.)

7. All senior activities require total senior participation, what incentives would you offer the class of 2012 so that everyone participates?

8. Being a senior ASB leader is similar to being a doctor on call 24/7 – there are a lot of responsibilities and duties required of you all the time, and your only option will be to delegate these tasks. Aside from your running mate and elected council members, who do you see yourself turning to for help and why?
